Human Resources (HR)

As with any volunteer organization there is a regular need to onboard, manage and exit members. The human resources volunteers ensure all personnel actions are attended to from onboarding, facilitating changes in membership status, ordering ID cards, coordinating leaves of absence, maintaining personnel files, and providing reports to leadership on membership activities. The human resources volunteers work closely with the recruiting team, the recruit team leaders, the County’s volunteer liaison office, and department leadership including the Board of Trustees.

 

All training is provided, no experience is required.

 

Administrative members must fulfill their assigned responsibilities in a timely manner, attend the monthly membership meeting, and work their assigned bingo or kitchen shift.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older.

  • Be a U.S. citizen or current legal resident with at least 24 months of U.S. residency.

  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.

  • Successfully pass a background investigation.

 

Note: Illegal drugs use during the last twelve months, and/or two or more moving traffic violations during the last twelve months disqualify candidates.

PROCESS

  1. ​Click "Apply Now" and submit your contact information. A member of the recruiting team will contact you to discuss your interests and the opportunities for volunteering.

  2. Attend a prospective member meeting to learn more and tour the fire station.

  3. Submit your application for membership.

  4. Participate in an interview.

  5. Undergo a background check. Once the background check is complete, the Board of Trustees will review your application and decide on whether to extend membership.

Operational volunteers are entitled to the following:

  • Official uniforms

  • Duty boots allowance

  • Recreation Center accesses

  • Comprehensive physical examinations

  • In-Station lockers

COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly membership meetings in-station the second Monday of the month

  • Attend our annual Open House event in October

  • Attend assigned bingo shifts on Wednesday or Saturday nights (16 per year)

Operational Volunteers are expected to the following in addition to the above:

  • Volunteer at least 20 hours per month/240 hours per year, including completion of mandatory refresher/re-certification training (this does not include the intensive training for EMT-B and fire fighter certification)

  • Attend training and drills as needed on nights and weekends in-station or at the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Academy
