| Ambulances |
Ambulances can be of two types, basic or advanced
life support. They differ by the equipment carried and the
qualifications of the staff on the unit. Basic life support (BLS)
ambulances are staffed by two Firefighter/EMTs and respond to basic
medical emergencies such as joint injuries, broken bones, back and neck
pain, general sickness, cuts and abrasions, and many other non-life
threatening medical emergencies.
Advanced life support (ALS) ambulances (more commonly referred to as
“medic” units) are staffed by one Officer/Paramedic and one
Firefighter/Paramedic, and carry additional specialty equipment and
drugs to support acute medical emergencies including respiratory,
obstetrical, cardiac, and diabetic problems, as well as serious
physical trauma to the body.

Utilities & Command Vehicles |
Utilities and command vehicles are specialty
units used by command officers to respond and operate from during
emergencies, at special events to transport personal and equipment, and
for general transportation of department personal on department
business.
There are two utility/command vehicles assigned to Company 13. The
first is our 2000 Ford Expedition custom comment and utility vehicle.
This unit is utilized as a command vehicle by volunteer staff at
special events, as a utility, and also as a reserve vehicle for the
County owned command buggies in our battalion.
The second is the Battalion Chief's command vehicle assigned to BC402.
The BC oversees all operations in the battalion to which they are
assigned. Fairfax County is divided into seven battalions; our fire
station lies in Battalion 2. BC's hold the rank of Captain II and are
employees of Fairfax County. They are fully qualified Advanced Life
Support providers. BC402's buggy is a 2009 Ford F-350 Extended Cab
Pickup. |
